One of the Most Powerful Natural Aphrodisiac Plants on Earth

Eurycoma Longifolia (Tongkat Ali/Pasak Bumi) is a single-stemmed slow growing tree of the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Tongkat ali is used throughout the region as herbal medicine and tonic. The chemical ingredients of tongkat ali have been chemically profiled; hence it is possible to chemically screen plants for genotypes of high quality. The active ingredients are concentrated in taproot. Tongkat ali takes five years or more to reach reproductive age, and usually the fruit is low, hence the rates of seed production cannot sustain the existing level of demand for this plant material.

Tongkat ali has been used as a medicinal herb for centuries in Southeast Asia to promote well-being, improve health, increase strength, and increase libido. Today tongkat ali is increasingly being used as a natural, gentle and effective alternative to sex-enhancing drugs, and in Malaysia is often included in soft drinks, coffee and tea as an overall health enhancer.

A Plethora of Benefits:

Tongkat ali holds up brilliantly under close, scientific scrutiny. The root contains a plethora of beneficial compounds, including potent, protective antioxidants that inhibit cellular aging. Other phytochemicals have anti-viral, anti-malarial, and anti-cancerous properties, and some combat high blood pressure and quell dysentery. Quassinoids in the root prove twice as potent as aspirin against fevers.

Nonetheless, what excites most people about tongkat ali is that the root significantly boosts sex drive and function in both men and women, by building testosterone. Glycoproteins appear to be the sex-promoting ingredients in the tongkat ali plant. Tongkat ali has been used as a traditional remedy for restoring fatigue, re-establishing sexual desire, and treating impotence.

Scientific Evidence

Scientific research on tongkat ali has been encouraged by the Malaysian government, and investigated by experts on the effects of tongkat ali root extract.

Dr. Ismail Tamby, the Deputy Director of the Human Reproduction Specialist Center in Malaysia, conducted a study in which he selected 30 adult males of various ages, assessed their testosterone levels, and then gave them 100 mg of tongkat ali extract daily. The testosterone levels of all the subjects rose, resulting in a 91% improvement in libido, a reported 73% improvement in sexual function, and an 82% psychological improvement relative to sex among the men who participated in the study.

Another tongkat ali expert, Dr. Johari Saad, who is called by many the King of Tongkat Ali, conducted the definitive animal research on the extract. The effects of tongkat ali were studied on the libido of male rats. The doses of 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight, which were extracted from tongkat ali, were orally administered to the rats twice daily for 10 days prior to the tests and continued throughout the test period.

Testosterone was used as a positive control after injecting 15 mg/kg daily subcutaneously for 32 days. Results showed that tongkat ali produced a dose-dependent increase in sexual performance of the treated animals, but the tongkat ali groups showed lower sexual performance in mounting, intromission and ejaculation than the testosterone group.

Further results also showed that tongkat ali promoted the growth of both ventral prostate and seminal vesicles as compared with the control, but the growth of sexual accessories at 800 mg/kg of butanol, methanol, water and chloroform fractions of tongkat ali was less than that of testosterone treated group.

The present study therefore gives further evidence that tongkat ali is effective as an aphrodisiac.
